Wrapping up February 2020
HBM Update from our CEO Mark Stockeland
What an amazing month and start to the new year 2020! We are excited to share with you what our great God has been doing in Jeremie, Haiti!
Compound: The HBM compound has had many new improvements the last two years, but the time finally came when we needed another septic system. Our fearless leader, Eldet, had our team jump right into building a new one. What a blessing to see this group of leaders working together and doing what needs to be done. This is not a glamorous job but they all served and did it with a smile!
Teams: We had New Song Church from Plymouth, IN partner with us by helping us plant our 5th HBM church in one of our Zones in Sou Planton. It was so exciting getting the building ready for the launch on Sunday, February,16th. Seeing the team work along side our Haitian leaders building deep relationships with each other and the community brings us so much joy. The church launch went better than we could have imagined with over 150 people attending with standing room only! Two people coming to know Jesus was definitely the highlight!
The following Sunday it rained so hard that only 37 people living close to the church braved the weather to attend, we weren’t even able to set up sound equipment or instruments due to the extreme weather. Out of the 37 people that day, 14 people put their faith in Christ! Praise the Lord! We are so excited, but should not be surprised that when we are faithful to do our part, God shows up and does what He does best!
Upcoming events: We have a team coming to hike 27 miles round-trip over 3,000 feet in elevation to a remote village where several of our leaders grew up. When we say remote, many in the village have never even seen a car! We will be partnering with a dying church to repair the building and help put some new leaders in place. We want to see this remote village and the people thrive and become who God has called them to be! We will also be helping others in the community with new roofs, as well as provide some meals and activities for the kids. Please pray for God to bless this trip and for more people to come to know Jesus as their Savior!
Coming up in April we have a couple of guys joining a few of our leaders on a unique trip where they will drive motos (dirt bikes) across the country from Port Au Prince to Jeremie. At the end of this trip, they will present the moto bikes to some of our Haitian leaders; a gift that will change their lives and will even impact the communities they live! Keep a look out for info on how you can help partner with us for the inaugural running of “Moto Madness”.
HBM leaders: This month we have been incredibly blessed to witness our leadership development plan coming full circle. Jackson Occean was one of the first young men to come into our program in 2009. He has now fulfilled his dream and vision to become a Doctor and has returned to Jeremie to help the people in the community that he was raised. He has a heart to provide medical care regardless of the financial standings of those he serves, and also wants to take mobile clinics into the most impoverished and remote villages that need medical care the most. Jackson has always been gifted in music as well and helps lead worship in HBM churches. Jackson got married in September 2019 and just opened his clinic in February. This story of Jackson is just one of the many stories we have of men and women who come through our leadership development program. We want to find out what their passion and calling is in life then help find people to support them to accomplish their dreams. While doing this we have Biblical training, business training, money management, marriage conferences and an endless list of life experiences that round-out our disciple-making goals. We want to see these men and women become who God created them to be. We want to see them become great dads and moms, great business leaders, pastors, doctors or mechanics! But stories like Jackson don’t happen without people partnering with us. We are thankful for all the help with Jackson and can’t wait to share with you all many more stories to come of men and women living out their dreams and calling from God!

Haiti Bible Mission : Year-End 2019
A Year of Growth: 2019
As December comes to a close, we celebrate our 10th year in Jeremie! Our year end goal is to raise $25,000! Every year God has allowed us to reach our year end goal. We are beyond blessed God has provided time and time again. We are excited to trust God will do the same this year! The money raised at year end will allow us to equip and train leaders to transform their communities. We invite you to join us this year to finish 2019 together.
We have experienced hardships and great triumphs this year. The goal at HBM for the year was “Growth”. The HBM emerging leaders have grown immensely. They have grown as pastors, as entrepreneurs, as teachers, as disciples, as people and most importantly spiritually. We have seen civil unrest push the emerging leaders closer to the Lord as they got on their knees to pray for their country. We have seen 100+ people give their lives to Christ this year through the local church and pastors. God is working abundantly in Jeremie despite the hardships.
Many things have pushed all of us at HBM to grow! We want to say thank you to everyone who has supported us through the ups and downs of this past year. HBM wouldn’t be here without your generous giving. We are thankful God HAS and IS using YOU to impact so many lives and communities in Jeremie, Haiti. Let’s finish this year giving glory to God for all he has done and will do.
TODAY IS GIVING TUESDAY!
Today is #GivingTuesday, HBM Family!! Your contribution today will go directly to supporting our Leaders that are passionate about Living the Difference 💚
Here’s the link where you can help Live the Difference today, too!
If you stepped into John Kely’s life for one day and went to the Te Wouj school, you would be greeted by over 150 students ecstatic to see you. You would have children who want to be held by you. You would be confronted with little children and young adults asking you for life advice. You would sit and listen to the heartaches these children experience and encourage them to keep moving forward. You could challenge the children to work hard at school, so they can make a difference. You could pray with the children when the bell rings to start and end school. You could be the role model many of these kids never had.
Keep reading for an HBM Emerging Leader Spotlight on John Kely, the director of the school at Te Wouj, who experiences these things every day.
Meet John Kely
John Kely was born in a village named Kafou Sanon, just outside of the city of Jeremie. John Kely grew up with a big family. He had five brothers and two sisters. Kely’s parents strongly desired to send all eight of their kids to school. Going to school in Haiti is rare. The majority of parents cannot afford to send their children to school or they do not live near one. Kely knows that his education is a blessing. Growing up, Kely would do whatever he could to help his family make money. He would help in the garden and with their livestock. Some of Kely’s siblings have not been able to finish school due to his parents' inability to afford it for all eight children. Because of this, Kely has a passion for educating the youth of Haiti. Kely is now employed with HBM at the Te Wouj school. Because Kely has a good job, he has taken on the responsibility of paying rent for his parents to help alleviate their stress. Each month Kely sets aside money to give to his parents. This act of love shows you the kind of man Kely is. He’s a man who cherishes family and loves sacrificially.
One Sunday, Kely attended HBM’s first church plant in the city of Jeremie. That day his life changed forever. He walked into church that day and the pastor asked if anyone wanted to accept Jesus as their personal Savior. Kely felt a stirring in his heart and made the decision to follow Christ. God had been working in his heart for a while, but that day he knew it was time to accept what Christ had done for him. Since that day, Kely’s life has a new purpose, to know and share the love of Jesus Christ. Kely started off as a 6th grade teacher for HBM’s Te Wouj school. He fell in love with teaching the kids at Te Wouj and worked very hard to be the best teacher he could be. HBM recognized his hard work and devotion to the village. HBM ask Kely to take on the role of Director of the school. Now he is in charge of everything that happens at the school and over all the teachers. He is very respected in the community and among the parents of his students.
Kely is more than the school’s director. Kely’s main goal is to share the Gospel with the students and their families. Kely strives to love them as Christ does, and to set an example for the children. He also encourages them to attend their school’s church and learn more about God. Kely has a great connection with the children because he grew up in a very remote countryside, like Te Wouj. He knows how difficult it was going two or three days without food. He understands how hard it is to study and pay attention in school while being so hungry. Kely is so grateful that he can work in a school like Te Wouj, where those children do not go one school day without food. Kely is living the difference in the village Te Wouj. He is being used by God each day.
God has raised up John Kely to make an impact on the community of Te Wouj. It’s because of people like you supporting John Kely that he feels empowered to change his community. Would you consider giving the gift of life change today?
