Hurricane Matthew Update

As the storm is already reaching the southern parts of Haiti, it is creating lots of big waves and causing the sea level to rise significantly.  As Matthew is headed straight for Jeremie, we wanted to share with you a few things that will be important as the storm moves through.

How can you help?

Prayer is of course the first and most important way to help; asking God for his favor on the country and these precious people.

Apart from prayer, the best and most far-reaching way to help will be to donate monetarily to allow HBM to meet the areas with the most need. Anyone wanting to help can go online and make a donation on our website by clicking here, which will allow us to buy what we need and minster to the city of Jeremie along with the HBM staff and their families.

We have a team of 7-8 people in place ready to join Mark Stockeland on a trip after the storm passes to help with the aftermath of the storm.  The team will be taking what they can for supplies with them.  Agape flights is planning a emergency flight with supplies for the missionaries which includes HBM.  We will be buying tarps, food, water purification systems and tablets along with several first aid kits for Agape to bring over.

Haiti Bible Mission: 2016 Recap

This year at Haiti Bible Mission has been full of character-developing challenges, amazing short term groups and projects that sought to encourage and strengthen the leaders we have here in Haiti.  Click through the vignettes below to see a month-by-month recap of what we have been doing here at HBM so far in 2016!  God is good!

January/February 2016
During January and February of this year, we were able to put metal doors on the school to increase the security of the school, and began renovating the school kitchen.  The start of this year included the purchasing of our second truck, which continues to be a blessing for the Mission and our teams.

March 2016
March brought with it HBM's first short-term group of the year. We had a combined crew from Florida and Texas, who put a roof on the house of Vialy Josuè's family in downtown Jeremie.  They also worked hard to build furniture for our new group facility.

April 2016
Moses Lake never fails to bring an excellent group to bless us at HBM, and they arrived in April to put a new roof on our church in Te Wouj.  The group also worked hard to give art lessons to our students at the Te Wouj School and at Madam Joel's orphanage in Chambellan.  The group finished out their time by building bunk beds for the children at the orphanage.

May 2016
With May came the completion of our new guest kitchen and gallery!  Our group from NNU was the first group to use both the kitchen and gallery, and it has proven to be an invaluable space for us at HBM, not just for groups but also for staff meetings and meals.  The NNU group made more desks for our school and took tarps out to our church community in Kolimo.  They also took the time to make a meal for our staff.

June 2016
June means the start of the summer months and the end of another school year at the Te Wouj School.  To help our students and staff celebrate the end of the school year, a group from Coulee City, WA came.  They created celebrations at Te Wouj, completed painting the inside of the renovated kitchen, made pizza for our staff and celebrate at Madam Joel's orphanage as well.  It was an exciting, celebratory finish to the school year!

Fall 2016
We at HBM have big plans for the fall!  Hanover, PA is hosting a basketball and golf tournament fundraiser in September.  This is the fourth annual Hanover Loves Haiti Event, and we pray that the annual event continues to grow.
The end of September also brings a Leadership Seminar led by David Wiedis of Serving Leaders Ministries for all of our missionaries and Stateside employees.  Pray with us that it will be a time of growth and team-building.

Summer Days at HBM

June 2016

June at Haiti Bible Mission brings with it the end of the school year, both for our students up at Te Wouj as well as many members of our staff.  We were privileged to welcome a team from Coulee City, WA this month to help celebrate with our students in Haiti.
The children in Te Wouj ended up blessing the team with fruit from their own gardens as report cards were delivered and the party continued with a meal and games.  Please pray for a safe and fun summer vacation for our hardworking students and teachers!
The group also brought a party to Madam Joel's orphanage in Chambellan with streamers, toys and games.  The children loved it, and Madam Joel was blessed to see their service.
The group finished out their week by spending an afternoon making pizza for our staff to celebrate the end of their school year also.  Thank you, Coulee City Team for making it a celebratory week!
Please pray that the staff will finish their exams strong and be refreshed for a summer of service.

If you wish to further partner with our school in Te Wouj, or our staff, please visit our website here.  We are purchasing some supplemental curriculum materials this year to meet the need of many students in the school by making it a God-centered place of learning.  If you wish to donate to the curriculum, click here and write "School Curriculum" in the comments section of the donation.  Thank you!

May Days at HBM

May 2016

It is May in Jeremie and that means that another group has come to serve with us!  We have just bid farewell to a group of university students from NNU in partnership with Mission Aviation Fellowship.  One week of their two week trip was spent with us at Haiti Bible Mission, and the team worked hard to build desks and paint our kitchen in Te Wouj.  The students also kept them quite busy with playing games from soccer, catch and tag to bubbles and nail polish.

The group also had the opportunity to go to Kolimo and put tarps on the roofs of some houses that have suffered in the recent rainstorms.    They topped off their trip by making dinner for our staff one of their nights here!  It is a blessing to see the group and staff come together to eat, play and serve!

Our crew recently took the trip to Madam Joel's orphanage in Chambellan to install a water collection system, which is a easy, fresh source of water for the home.

April Showers in Jeremie, Haiti

April 2016

Jeremie has been blessed by a lot of rain in the past few weeks, but we at Haiti Bible Mission have stayed busy despite frequent rainstorms!  Last week, we said goodbye from a great group of people from Moses Lake, WA.  They worked around the rain and put in some long days at Te Wouj to complete a new roof for the Te Wouj Church.  Members of the community of Te Wouj loved being able to watch this group and even pitch in at times and help with the project.
The group was also able to build bunk beds for Madam Joel's orphanage in Chambellan.  This is huge for the orphanage where twenty-seven children were mainly sleeping on the floor before this group arrived.
The group also was able to teach staff, students and orphanage children how to paint in fun and inspiring art classes.  This was a big hit at each location, and the kids treasure their masterpieces.
