Philippians 4
"Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say rejoice. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally brothers whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.”
What a great reminder and challenge during this difficult season we are all facing. COVID-19 is changing everyday life for so many people around the world, yet we can still think about good and lovely things and not be anxious; thank you, Jesus!
COVID-19 Jeremie Update
While cases are slowly climbing around Haiti, Jeremie has not had a confirmed case of COVID-19. Zero is an encouraging number, except testing is barely accessible and many people are too scared to be tested for fear they will be targeted. With this in mind, we are being cautious and adhering to the social distancing rules to be as safe as we can. We all know Haiti is not ready for a pandemic of this magnitude. With over 11 million people, and at most 130 ICU beds in the whole country, ONLY God can fight this battle. While we prepare as best we can with supply reserves and hand washing-stations, we are resting our hope in Christ alone.
Budget
We understand that the whole world is hurting right now. We are entering into unknown territory as we struggle with new realities…changing jobs, losing jobs, supply shortages, children at home, etc. HBM is also feeling the hurting economy. As of right now, we are behind in budget by 33%. We have been forced to make drastic changes in Haiti and stateside. It has been very difficult as we have had to let some of our staff go and have also shut down all operations and projects, among other cutbacks. We know this is a season where we’re all hurting and trusting God to get us through this difficult time. However, we choose to think about the good things and we are enjoying this time that is forcing us to slow down and get back to our roots, which is life on life discipleship; time with people. We are believing this time will not be fruit-less.
Schools and churches/feeding program
As the president has placed social distancing parameters of avoiding large gatherings of more than 10 people, schools and churches are closed. In our efforts to continuing to meet the needs of the school children and others most in need, we are trying to go house-to-house to make deliveries of food and essentials. Unfortunately, our reserves are quickly depleting and we will not be able to provide beyond two more weeks.
We know we are in this together. We are praying for you, and we ask that you continue to pray for us and the people of Haiti.
